Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure where putty-like, tooth-colored resin is applied to a tooth, molded into shape and hardened on the spot. This is used to both repair damaged teeth and to improve the appearance of teeth.

Some tooth damage can be alleviated using dental bonding. The resin can be used to fill cavities or repair chipped teeth. In addition, if a tooth’s root is exposed due to receding gum lines, dental bonding can cover up and protect the root. Lastly, many dentists and patients like this method because dental bonding only requires minimum removal of tooth enamel compared to other procedures.

Dental bonding can also be used to make cosmetic changes. Many people choose dental bonding to cover up tooth discoloration, to change the shape of teeth, make teeth look longer, and to help close gaps between teeth.

This process is also incredibly quick. At Your OC Dentist, we have the ability to make veneers and crowns in-office. However, normally patients would have to wait for a lab to send you any custom materials.

This process is not without disadvantages though. Although cost effective, resin isn’t as stain resistant as fillings, crowns or veneers are, nor are they as durable. Resins can chip, and even if they don’t, resins don’t last as long as crowns, fillings or veneers.
